Lower Saucon Council Honors SV Team

Last week, Lower Saucon Township Council honored the Saucon Valley High School Panthers baseball team.


The baseball team finished the 2022-23 season with a 24-4 record - a record-setting four more wins than the previous best by the 1999 and 2022 baseball clubs.

Resolution #55-2023 was approved unanimously by Council.


A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE SAUCON VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM


WHEREAS, the Saucon Valley High School Baseball team has participated in Interscholastic Competition since 1918; and


WHEREAS, Gary Laub, who is in his 7th season as head coach at Saucon Valley, along with Assistant Coaches Chris Moughan, Michael Kiak, Justin Reiss, and Michael Petruny as well the team’s statistician, Rocky Viscito; and


WHEREAS, after compiling a 24-4 record in the 2022-2023 season, the team set a new record with most wins in a season with the record previously held by the 1999 & 2022 District XI Champions at 20 wins; and

WHEREAS, the team won back-to-back District XI titles for the first time in school history bringing home the 2022 District XI 4A and 2023 District XI 3A Championships; and


WHEREAS, the team qualified for states after winning the District XI Championship defeating Allentown Central Catholic with a score of 10-3; and

WHEREAS, the team moved into the PIAA State Playoffs defeating Trinity 13-1 in the first round, then moved onto the PIAA 3A Quarterfinals vs Hughesville on June 8, 2023, defeating them with a score of 6-0; and

WHEREAS, the team ended their season in the PIAA Semifinals being defeated by Camp Hill 5-4 on June 13, 2023, in Fredericksburg, PA.; and

WHEREAS, outstanding performances on the field throughout the season by Rocky Viscito, Ray Matey, Ron Werkheiser, Karter Beller, Liam Buck, Cole Hubert, Jake Albert, Andrew Gilbert, Zack Male, Tyler Pfizenmayer, Jake Klotz, Chris Hill, Joseph Griffith, Chase Luckenbach, Adam Clark, Landon Beckowski, Carter Bidwell, and Jack Schmehl; and


WHEREAS, Council would also like to recognize the support of the Saucon Valley School District, Saucon Valley Athletic Department, Saucon Valley Booster Club, St. Luke’s Athletic Training, for their ongoing support to the Saucon Valley Baseball Team; and


NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of Lower Saucon Township, Jason Banonis, President; Mark Inglis, Vice President; Tom Carocci, Priscilla deLeon, and Sandra Yerger, Council Members; wishes to commend the 2022-2023 Saucon Valley High School Baseball Team for their successful and memorable season, which brought much enjoyment to the residents of the Saucon Valley.


ADOPTED and ENACTED this 26th day of July, 2023.


Upon reading the resolution, Council President Jason Banonis made the following statement:

"Your accomplishments have been tremendous for this community. Special thanks to Coach Laub, who did a fantastic job with these young men and have prepared them to move on to greater things with Saucon Valley Baseball, as well as the rest of their lives."
