According to a report published by PennLive, Hellertown's Police Chief Robert Shupp is not the first police chief to resign under unusual circumstances. "Shupp was named chief in 2009. His predecessor also left amid controversy."
Per the article, which can be read in its entirety by clicking here, "Former Chief Robert Balum was evasive when asked to discuss why he resigned in February 2009. Immediately after this resignation, his secretary was suspended for three days for misconduct. About a month later, [Hellertown] council accepted her resignation and never said why she has been suspended."
Also according to the article, "Lehighvalleylive.com reached out to the borough solicitor, borough manager, mayor, council president, and [Council Vice President] Marcincin for further clarification. None of those officials responded. An email sent to the state attorney general's press office didn't elicit a response, either."
