Saucon Valley Students Head Back to School This Week

The first day back to school for students at Saucon Valley will be Wednesday, August 23. As parents (and students) prepare to head back for the start of the 2023-24 school year, district families should be aware of the following resources:

Also new for the 2023-24 school year is the launching of the ACE (Academic Center for Excellence) After School Program, which will be available to students in grades 3-12. The program, which will run after school from 2:30pm - 4:30pm, will provide consistent and dedicated sessions for all students, four times a week for two hours through individual and collaborative time, per an email sent to district families.

Also according to the email, the ACE program will focus on three specific areas:

  1. Academic Discovery Program. This program, overseen by an advisor, tailors individual plans for students, including academic and career support, counseling, skill development, and mentorship. These plans last 6 to 8 weeks, with ongoing mentoring.

  2. Peer Support. Peer support can take different forms. A Peer Support Advisor oversees these students. Studying alone can be demotivating and isolating, so sessions allow students to work together to stay on track. Students may receive 1 to 1 support, peer support, drop-0in tutoring, small group tutoring, and older peer tutoring.

  3. Scholar Athlete Support. This program, led by the SAS Monitor, reviews eligibility criteria like grades and missing assignments during the first half of Accountability Block. Athletes have access to resources, clubs, and guidance until 3:30, when practice begins. Coaches can require attendance, and teams can use the Center of Academic Excellence for academic collaboration.

To learn more about the new program, please view this presentation which was delivered to the School Board.

In related school district news, the Saucon Valley School Board will hold its next regularly scheduled school board meeting on Tuesday, August 22 starting at 7:00pm in the High School Audion. The full agenda can be downloaded by clicking here.

Saucon Voice reminds everyone traveling to be mindful of school buses, especially on our Township's rural roads.
